The Lower Similkameen Art & Mural Walk celebrates the creative spirit of our region through a growing collection of public art installations, murals and artistic landmarks that reflect the culture, history and beauty of the Similkameen Valley. Spanning several communities, the walk invites residents and visitors alike to explore local stories and perspectives. From vibrant downtown displays to tucked-away surprises, the Art & Mural Walk offers a unique way to experience the Valley through the eyes of local artists. The Keremeos & Area Economic Vitality Initiative is a collaborative effort to strengthen the economic foundation of Keremeos, Cawston and the surrounding rural communities. Led by the Similkameen Country Development Association, the initiative brings together local businesses, residents, government, and community partners to identify opportunities, tackle challenges and foster a more resilient and prosperous local economy. Once finalized, the strategy will be shared here as a community-wide resource. This project is generously funded by ETSI-BC.

The Similkameen Valley Agri-Tourism Strategy is a community-driven plan to grow a thriving sector that celebrates our cultural roots, supports local businesses, and strengthens the regional economy. Guided by five priorities — Organizational Development, Industry Education, Product Development, Marketing & Collaboration, and Destination Development — the strategy is a living resource shaped by local voices.

The Interpretive Native Plant Garden is a collaborative project designed to celebrate and educate the public about the rich biodiversity and cultural significance of native plant species in the Similkameen Valley. Soon located at the Similkameen Recreation Centre, the garden will feature carefully selected plants with interpretive signage highlighting their traditional uses, ecological value, and importance to local Indigenous communities. Developed in partnership with various local community groups, this living space shall serve as a hub for learning, reflection and connection to the land. This project was generously funded through Destination BC’s Indigenous Learning & Projects Grant.

The Changemakers Series is an annual initiative designed to inspire, inform, and empower community involvement across the Similkameen Valley. Hosted by the Similkameen Country Development Association each year in early November, the series features guest speakers, interactive workshops and networking opportunities focused on leadership, civic engagement and professional development – bringing valuable resources to our rural region that are otherwise not readily accessible. Now in its second year, the Changemakers Series is gradually becoming part of our regular programming and continues to be funded entirely through grants and sponsorships. The 2025 series is generously supported primarily through REDIP funding, supplemented by in-kind donations and community sponsors.
