The Similkameen Valley is the traditional and unceded territory of the Sməlqmix, whose historical relationships with this tm̓xʷúlaʔxʷ (land) continue to this day. tm̓xʷúlaʔxʷ encompasses the land and its numerous interactions with living beings. It is a comprehensive term that conveys the interconnectedness of the land and nature. As visitors on these lands, we are grateful for the opportunity to live, work, play and enjoy the beauty of the territory, and to acknowledge our responsibility to learn and act in accordance with Sməlqmix values of caretaking towards the territories, all lifeforms that it sustains, and all our relations within, in order to provide a better world for generations to come.
